John Montoya lives and works in a restored 1820's log home in
New Milton, West Virginia. All of John's work is of the
highest quality and each piece is made with pride.

John has trained under expert saddle maker Dusty Johnson at the
Pleasant Valley Saddle School in Colorado. Dusty has more than
45 years of leatherworking experience. He has published many articles
about leatherwork and is the author of books and videos of instruction
in the art of building saddles and horse related equipment.
Dusty's work is sought after by discerning collectors worldwide.

John has also traveled to Montana to train under the late Rob Barr, wildlife figure carving specialist and Al Stohlman Award winner;
Rene Berends, leather artist; Rob Beard, tool-maker and figure carving expert; and Joe Barth, leather embossing specialist.

John travels to many shows, fairs, and rendezvous selling his leather goods. His work can be seen and purchased at Tamarack,
a showcase for WV artisans in Beckley. His works have also been juried into other prominent events across the state including:
Stonewall Jackson Jubilee, West Virginia State Fair, West Virginia Arts & Crafts Guild, and Mountain State Art & Craft Fair,
where he has received blue ribbon awards of excellence.
